SixOneSix Dentistry for Children

In designing SixOneSix Dentistry for Children’s offices and patient rooms, Pure took inspiration from Lake Michigan beaches. Throughout the space, patients can experience playful nods toward waves, sand, and other beach novelties.

Being a dental practice for kids of all ages and abilities, it was important to not compromise design at the expense of functionality. Colors were chosen to create a friendly and calming environment. And while most treatment spaces were designed in a communal setting with dividers to provide connections for staff, private rooms were also built to accommodate patients with sensory deficits.
Design decisions like these helped us create a welcoming space and a place of refuge for young patients.
A custom built-in fish tank with bubble-like cutouts to allow for different heights and ages to view the fish from the side is the space’s feature piece, as it stirs wonder and delight from both children and adults alike.
Acoustic paneling in the treatment rooms mimics rippling water to reduce stress and provide a biophilic interest for kids to focus on while sitting in the exam chair.
“The colors in the space were pulled from beach stones of Lake Michigan while also creating wayfinding for children to know which room they are heading to.”
