The Gateway Center

The expanded Gateway Center will offer community space, vocational training, and numerous resources to support physical and mental well-being.

The Gateway Center includes $12 Million renovation and expansion across 80,000 sf that will house a new 500-seat worship center, Gateway’s 25 administrative offices, a central kitchen that produces 600 meals per day, a fitness center, counselling services, vocational training spaces, three classrooms, a restaurant, and numerous outdoor spaces for social gathering.

The Pure Architects team collaborated with Gateway to align their strategic plan with a human-centered design process to highlight the lived experiences of the people they serve experiencing houselessness. We engaged in programming and visioning for the project prior to commencing department interviews, space audits, and empathy exercises.
The existing store is connected by a daylit gallery where people can sit together, walk together, or host small events. The gallery terminates at the event space and spills out to the southern social space bound by a poured concrete wall and integral fireplace.
